Iconic Washington

Memorabilia

Despite the social and political upheaval of the 1960s, they left us with many thoughtful, endearing, and enduring symbols of that time. From the promise of a new generation leading the United States (as seen in the countenance and enthusiasm of the youthful President John F. Kennedy), to the hope of equal rights across the land, the space race, and from the near point of nuclear annihilation to a querulous war in Indochina, the 1960s was a decade of chaos.

Assassinations of American leaders and riots in the cities were all too prevalent, while a chasm between the older generations and the younger was never before so bitter. 1967 itself was perhaps the most turbulent year of all.

As graduating classes go, EHS class of 1967 was fairly large. We had 578 alumni, each with their own experiences and memories from those years. However, here are a few that we shared in common.
